Further east, towards Sarlat, Brive or Cahors, is the you will find the “Pays des Bastides et Cités Médiévales” to which Eymet belongs. What riches! The medieval village of Issigeac, the “bastides” of Monpazier and Beaumont-du-Perigord… the abbeys of St-Avis-Sénieur and Cadoin (a part of UNESCO’S World Heritage)… A little further and you arrive at Beynac, Castelnaud-La-Chapelle, Domme, and Sarlat, and the prehistoric sites of the Vézère…

Less than 30 kms to the north, towards Périgueux there is Monbazillac, the valley of the Dordogne, and the old districts of Bergerac – not to be missed!

Just a few hundred metres to the south is “the border” with the Lot-et-Garonne. Marmande, Agen, Villeneneuve-sur-Lot (which is also a “bastide” built by Alphonse de Poitiers) are all worth a visit.

In the West, past Allemans-du-Dropt, is the wine area of Duras and, on the way to Bordeaux, “Entre-deux-Mers”. Countryside dotted with beautiful towns such as Castelmoron-d’Albret and Saint-Macaire, bastides like Monségur and Pellegrue, splendid abbeys (Blasimon, Saint-Ferme) and a mass of Roman churches and chapels…
